Radio station/TV program visit!
My group mates and I have chosen Love Radio, Radio Veritas, and Happy Yipee Yehey to be the radio stations and TV program that we will visit. Since Love Radio was located at the Manila Broadcasting Company near CCP, we went there first.

Love Radio, Yes FM!, Easy Rock, DZRH, and Radyo Natin are housed in one building. We were toured around the different stations so that we could get a glimpse of how they operate on a daily basis. When we entered the booth of Love Radio, we were amazed of the radio jocks because we had the chance to hear and see them doing their job on air! We were lucky because we do not usually experience that kind of encounter. We were given the chance to observe the RJs- how they talk, think fast and crack jokes, repeat their signature laughs over and over, and how they do not get distracted even if we were all in the same room. After their portion on air, we asked them some questions regarding our radio visit. I was surprised to know that they were not Mass Communication graduates! One of them was a licensed dietician, and one took up finance management (I’m not quite sure with this). They said that it was not important what course you took up in college, but what they need is someone who has potential in speaking and delivering news and such. They were kind and were very professional in answering our questions. They were also fun to be with because they crack jokes a lot even if they are in office grounds.

Radio Veritas was our chosen AM station. We went there yesterday morning, September 27. Radio Veritas is a Catholic station established in 1969 by Cardinal Santos and the Archdiocese of Manila. This station was blessed by Pope Paul VI. It was different from the secular stations. This AM station is also owned by the Archdiocese of Manila. Their office was a bit small and old compared to the other radio stations we have been to. The booth was upstairs so we were toured by the guy working there. The corridors were narrow and the office was quite messy. During the tour, we saw and heard the news anchor commentating on their subject of discussion. The radio jocks, compared to the RJs of the FM stations, were quite old. I have also observed that they have 2 booths, a technical booth, and a small workplace. There was a small chapel upstairs were they hold the mass which is aired every day.

For our TV program, we first chose ASAP, a variety show of Abs-cbn. However, due to reservation regulations, we had a conflict of schedule and chose Happy Yipee Yehey (HYY) instead. The program is aired every day until Saturday on a noon time. It is also a variety show composed of different popular celebrities who host the show. We went there last September 24, Saturday. When we got in the studio, there were people who assisted us in our seats and also explained to us the different rules we have to follow while we are inside their premises. I did not like one of the crew who talked in front of us because he was kind of rude when he gave us a few reminders. He also cracked green and adult jokes even if there were minors in the studio. Since it was a Saturday, the program did not have any game contests because it was the finals of their segment My Girl. Their opening production number was good; I was not that fascinated. But there were these two kids who danced hip-hop and man they were amazing! They really have talent and a great future ahead of them. Anyway, the hosts of the show- Toni Gonzaga, Bianca Manalo, Rico J Puno, John Estrada, Randy Santiago, Pokwang, and Melai looked normal in personal. I was not star struck when I saw them because what they looked on TV was the same as they looked in person. Throughout the program, My Girl took most of the 3 hours and got on with the question and answer portion. Luckily, Venus Raj and the very beautiful and popular Anne Curtis were the judges! We did not expect to see them there because we did not know that it was the finals of My Girl. Fast forward…..! The whole experience in Abs-cbn was great and exciting because it was my first time there.

HAPPY YIPEE YEHEY • AM / FM RADIO STATIONS
HAPPY YIPEE YEHEY @ ABS-CBN
We were about to watch ASAP Rocks for our chosen TV program, but since there are conflicts between time and reservation, we decided to come along with HAPPY YIPEE YEHEY.
That was 24th of September when we went to ABS-CBN to watch a noon time show. When I saw the studio, I was expecting that it was huge and big just like what I’ve seen on TV. But it wasn’t that big. What makes it big was the camera angle. Before they begin the show, the staff told us first about the rules and regulations when the show is on-air. They have to be very strict for them to make the show successful.
Good thing it was Saturday when we went to that show, because they said that there will be no game portions every Saturday. When the show has begun, we have seen many celebrities. I was glad that Anne Curtis was there and we were given a chance to see her in person. Too bad that I wasn’t able to see Matteo and John Prats because I was expecting them to be there.
The show was pretty good but then in the middle part of the show, I started to get bored and sleepy. I don’t know why, but it’s like I am no longer enjoying. However, they did a good job to entertain people especially on TV. Afterwards, we took pictures with celebrities and roam around.

101.1 YES! FM 90.7 LOVE RADIO 96.3 EASY ROCK | | |
Since it is our first time to go to radio stations, we are curious to know who were the DJ’s and how they perform their lines whenever they’re on-air. The first fm station we went to was the YES! Fm 101.1. I forgot the name of the DJ but we have witnessed her performance on-air, and I should say that she did great! J She was also nice and friendly, so as the others who worked there. The DJ told us her story on how she makes it becoming a DJ, and it’s quite interesting.
The next radio station we went to was the 90.7 Love Radio. Like Yes! FM the DJ’s were also funny and friendly. Most of them are not masscom graduates and yet their work was being a DJ. They gave us advice not to invite friend/s with you when you planned to have an audition for being a DJ. Because it was also competition that sometimes there are other case that instead of hiring you, there are possibilities that your friend will be the one who’s hired and not you.
The last station was the 96.3 Easy Rock. DJ Chloe was only the one who’s there to talk to. When I first saw her, I thought that she was “masungit” but when we start talking to her, I realized that it’s the other way around. She also told us a story on how she become a DJ. She also said that in Easy rock station they’re always using English for their lines because their company has a higher level on market and most people who are listening to their station are the businessmen.
• AM STATION •
I wasn’t able to join my group mates at veritas am station. Good thing that we have been to DZRH Radyo Natin. They deliver news and hearing out their voices through online and giving them advice. The one who’s working there was also a masscom graduate and a scholastican. But sad to say that she’s quite ‘suplada’ and she doesn’t want to take picture with us. Anyways, those who are also working there are somehow friendly and told us the difference of AM and FM.
If I were to ask, working at TV network and radio station sounds fun and interesting.
But I still don’t know what to choose between them because I’m still exploring my capabilities and skills on where I think I can go to.

Well, I guess I had a fun experience staring at those art and paintings at the Manila Art Museum located at NBC Tent. I was really amazed when I have seen those and I got shocked when I heard the price of those paintings. Lucky for those who can afford those lovely and unique paintings.
I suddenly liked this image the first time I saw it. The artwork has a “FORGET” word in the middle of its image. When I saw the word FORGET, it’s like it signifies that you have to forget the pain or bitterness that happened from your past. The road from the image signifies that life goes on; we must learn from our past and be a better person. Experiences reflect from who and what we are today, and that’s what matters.
I was also amazed at this one and it seemed like it was very beautiful to me. As I looked at the painting, I think the painter used the Louis Vuitton Bag as the skin of the bull because Louis Vuitton was too expensive; and it fits the bull because the bull was also symbolic of great luxury and wealth. Others wanted to have a Louis Vuitton Bag ,but for you to have that kind of bag needs a lot of money, patience and determination, I guess?

Experience 101: AM/FM/TV STATION Visit
"Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.”
It never occur to me that I would be able to experience visiting stations that I once thought was supposed to be out of bounds to people like me. Mass Communication made it possible for me, though. We visited LOVE RADIO along with Yes! FM, Easy Rock, Radyo Natin, and DZRH located at MBC Building, whereas Radyo Veritas is situated at Quezon City. But the fun of gaining Knowledge doesn’t stop on visiting Radio Stations because we also stormed our way to Happy Yipee Yehey! on ABS-CBN.
Seeing it before my very eye, how they produce the show, their procedures of staging everything, from radio equipment to lighting positions and directing the hosts and audiences in a show, everything seemed surreal. The feeling of undefined joy washed over me and seriously, I felt that I wanted to stay and excel in this industry. I love the challenge that their work is demanding. I feel excited even though I’m not the one on their place. Seeing them working on the spot, I feel the sense of belonging in this career.

What was funny though is that, in Radio Station, especially in FM Station, you need not to be a professional graduate of Mass Communication to be able to acquire the job of DJ. We, as a Mass Communication student, would die to at least acquire a job of the DJ. But, you need not to graduate as a mass media practitioner! You can be like Missyhista of Love Radio who is a licensed Nutritionist, or DJ Chloe of Easy Rock who graduated in Business and Finance. If you have the skills and you fit in the job then you’re in! As they say, “If you have what it takes to be the one, then go for it!”

At Radyo Veritas |
The issue between AM and FM station was made clear to me as well. AM and FM are frequencies. The reason why mostly, AM delivers the news is that their range are larger than FM stations. So, in order to inform people who is far from the civilization, it happened that they are in charge of the news and the FM station become the center of entertainment in offices, jeepneys, etc. to entertain people who are tired from everyday work.

Happy Yipee Yehey! |
But nothing would beat the pressure that the TV Show is giving. When on air, you always have to be ready, and no one is allowed to take this job easily. People expect more in TV Programs so even after office hours, employees in charge of the show should work for concept. You should always have wide range of ideas otherwise you won’t survive.
I would really love to work on TV Station, it is my greatest wish. Ever since I’ve decided to take this course, I was certain that working behind the camera, with busy people of the showbiz or news industry, would be the job that will make me happy. I don’t know if I am capable yet on their job but my enthusiasm in attaining my goal was so great that I’m willing to learn everything to get that job. Who knows, I might someday excel in things that I am about to discover yet.
