''A magazine is simply a device to induce people to read advertising."
                                                                             - James Collins

''Sorry Sir, I only got four pictures because I'm little bit scared doing this, I mean to take pictures of the magazines because they  don't allow it, right? This photo was in collage already. I'm wearing St. Scho uniform that day so I'm scared and it's too embarrassed for me if I got caught:))''
(Magazine section @ National Bookstore V.Cruz Taft Ave branch)

As a masscom student we are required to go a huge book store to check the different kinds of magazines and what are the difference between local and international magazines. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go to a huge bookstore. I only went to National Bookstore Vito Cruz, Taft Avenue branch. But still I've checked their magazine section. As I go, roamed and checked, I've realized that there are some magazine company that were not really popular for business or for us consumers. I've seen also unfamiliar names or brands of magazines there that was not too pricey and because of that I keep asking this into myself before I leave that bookstore, why are some magazine or advertising companies still producing those kinds of magazines that was not really profitable or indemand (mabenta) for us consumers or readers?  Next year we're going to choose what major we are going to pursue among those four; Advertising, Print Journalism, Broadcasting and Development Communication. In this activity, it seems advertising has it's connection to this, I mean to magazines. People will study advertising has their own style, concepts and ideas to make magazines beautiful, worth buying and interesting.

What are the difference between local and international magazines?
  • Local is in Filipino language while International is in English language
  • Local is more cheaper than those international magazines
  • Materials that was used in international magazines are better than the local
  • People can also see the different culture in which magazine, e.g Philippine magazine about lifestyle, so you can see or read about the Filipino lifestyle.
  • Authors/writers from international magazines are more expert and well known (I think?)
